What is there to see?
Mindanao is a beautiful place. It is famed for it's pineapple plantations and it's South Sea Pearls. There are some beautiful unspoilt places in Mindanao as fewer tourists visit.
Most people either go to the city of Davao City or to Cagayan de Oro city and then on to Camiguin Island
Where do I stay?
Davao has all sorts of accomodation including luxury hotels. Cagayan de Oro currently lacks the five star hotels, but the city is becoming increasingly popular and I've heard rumours there will soon be a 5 star hotel. Camiguin offers good accomodation at very reasonable prices.
How do I get there?
From Manila or Cebu get a plane to Davao or Cagayan de Oro. To get to Camiguin fly to Cagayan de Oro and get a taxi or bus to Baligoan, then take a boat.
How long shall I stay?
It depends on how much you want to explore. Like most places in the Philippines it is best to stay a couple of days and then move on to a new island or resort to maximise your stay
Tips and Comments
There have been terrorist acts on buses and kidnappings in Mindanao. These are pretty much restricted to the west of Mindanao (which is a big place) and the destinations mentioned here are considered safe. You should of course check for advice at the time of travel. The main issue is that foreign countries largely advise you to avoid the whole of Mindanao and this means that should you chose to visit the safe areas then your travel insurance may still be invalidated, so please check on this.
